Morning Services

At 8.30am there is a traditional Book of Common Prayer communion service in the Chapel followed by breakfast served in the Café. 10.30am service is an All Age Service with communion. Tea, Coffee and soft drinks are available in the Café afterwards.

 

6.00pm Evening Service

A quiet reflective service in the chapel.

 

Closer

Please note there will be no Closer Service this month.

 

Refresh & Renew

Tonight at 8pm in the Meeting Room there is an opportunity to relax with others in God's presence and receive refreshment and renewal. This is a great way to get equipped for the coming week.

 

THIS WEEK…

 

Chit Chat

Chit Chat will take place thisMonday 20th Augustbetween

1.30pmtill3.00pm, in the church cafe. Those coming will have the opportunity to meet with others for a chat, over a hot drink and biscuits. Members of the church family are there to welcome and chat. If you know of anyone you think would like to come please ask them! If anyone needs a lift or would like to learn more about Chit Chat, please ring Sarah Rogerson on 01302 535747.

 

Mothers Union Wave of Prayer

Monday 20th August -  MU Wave of Prayer. A reminder to members and friends the Branch slot for the year is 10.30 - 11.00am. We will initially commence with the Morning worship at 10.15am, before celebrating the World Wide Prayer Circle.

Soul Survivor - NEW

Many of our young people are away at Soul Survivor this week.  Please pray for them at this great opportunity to meet with God.

    

MissionPartnership:

Walking, Praying, Exploring

The final walk will be at 2pm on 23rd August for the Crossways Mission Partnership which is exploring the possibility of working together to plant a new Church on the Woodfield Plantation Estate. As a first step, during August we are meeting 3 times to prayer walk on the estate. We will meet up outside the Maple Tree pub,Plantation Road,DN4 8RZ.

 

Refuel

EveryThursdaythere is a weekly event designed to give a mid week spiritual, emotional and physical refuel. Meeting at3pmin themeeting room. Refuel will start with a short reading from scripture followed by a few inspirational thoughts. Then we can relax while listening to worship music in the awareness of God's love and peace. Finishing with the opportunity to receive prayer ministry in a relaxed way in order to complete the mid-week refuel.

Morning Prayer/Prayer Requests

Morning Prayer is held daily in the Chapel at the following times:

Monday 10.15 Tuesday, Thursday and Friday Morning Prayer is at 9.30 am.  Saturdays Morning Prayer is at 9.00 am, if you are unable

to get to Morning Prayer, you can pray and read scripture online:   https://www.churchofengland.org/prayer-worship/join-us-in-daily-prayer.aspx  On Wednesday mornings we have a service of Holy Communion in the Chapel at 9.30 am.

If you have a specific prayer request please fill in a slip and pop it in the prayer box. If you have an urgent and emergency prayer request please text 07493191852 with details of your prayer request.  If you would like to be one of the people who prays for any of these prayer requests, come along to morning prayer or text your name and the phrase "I'm happy to pray"  to 07493191852.

 

Prayer Meeting for the Nation - NEW

On the8th SeptemberinLondonthere is a national gathering to pray for the nation at Westminister Hall. For those not able to go toLondonthere is a local gathering 8pm at Chequer Road Baptist Church Hall inDoncaster. Christians from a large number of denominations will be joining together to pray for all sections of our nation. The meeting will have a flexible format with worship and prayer and there will especially be prayers asking that people turn

(or return) to God. All are welcome.

 

Mens Group - NEW

The next meeting of the men's group will be at the Toby Carvery (Punches) on Saturday 29th September at 9am for a hearty breakfast and the chance to chat.  If you are interested (and so that we can book tables) please sign up at the welcome desk or email the church office.

 

Day of Celebration - NEW

The Sheffield Diocese are holding a day of Celebration of Vocation and Diversity on Saturday 20th October from 9 - 3.30pm.  There will be guest speakers including Revd Dr Guli Francis-Dehqani, Rosemarie Davidson-Gotobed (National Minority Ethnic Vocations Officer) and Dawn Lewinson who is the Employers Network for Equality & Inclusion.  There will be food, drink and music (free) for all that attend. Holiday@Home

Holiday@Home has been a wonderful success.  We have had lots of positive feedback on how well organised it has been and everyone has thoroughly enjoyed themselves. We would like to say a very special thank you to all our helpers who have given so generously of their time and worked very hard to make sure everyone enjoyed their week.

 

Foodbank

Thank you for your overwhelming support in the past two months whilst theFoodbankhas been our chosen charity.  The weight of the food donated was an amazing 228kg which will help so many people in crisis.

Those of you who receive the Newsletter via email will also automatically receive the e-bulletin from Sheffield Diocese.  If youdo not wantto receive the e-bulletin from the Diocese then please let Liz or Michelle know and we can make adjustments to our system.  If you unsubscribe from the e-bulletin when we send it out you areautomatically unsubscribing every member of St Francis Churchand Liz has to go through the whole subscription process again.  Thank you for your co-operation. 

  

Charities and Missions

Our Charity for August and September isFriends ofCalcuttaCathedral Relief Service.  TheCRSsupports people of different faiths who are very poor and vulnerable and who live in the slums (or Bustees) ofCalcuttaCity.  TheCRSis a leading development agency in West Bengal and is funded by the Cathedral congregation, NGO's and businesses, supporters in theUSAand Friends of Calcutta Cathedral Relief Service (FCCRS) in theUK.

 

The focus ofCRSis on self reliance rather than relief and in development rather than charity. CRStackles issues of poverty, poor health (every day over 1000 people die of TB), lack of education, unemployment, illiteracy, child labour, child abuse, the condition of women in society and the lack of awareness of rights and responsibilities.  The aim ofCRSis: Not to conform but transform and not to relieve but release and enable.CRSencourages communities to organise themselves and become self supporting.
