Make the most of the Christmas Season at St Francis Church

Advent and Christmas provide wonderful opportunities to go deeper in faith. It is also an excellent chance to invite others to join in with some of the things we are doing. It is much easier to come to a service and activity when there will be plenty of other visitors. Please pray through this list and think about what you are going to engage with and who you will invite to join you.

Hosting Young Adults

St Francis church has been approached to apply to Global Volunteer Services (GVS) to consider hosting 1 or more full time interns to assist with our work with young adults and atLakeside. If we are successful in our application the interns will come fully briefed, trained and paid for by the German Government and the GVS organisation. Starting next summer it would be a year of great learning and experience for the interns and will be invaluable for us in seeking to grow the work with young adults and develop a new fresh expression of church. Before we formally apply for interns we need to find one or more suitable homes for them to stay in. If we develop a good relationship with GVS it is possible that we could get receive interns at St Francis each year. If you think that you would like to consider hosting one of these young adults please get in touch with Richard, Caitlin or the church office over the next week or so.

Ecclesiastical Insurance

Ecclesiastical Insurance are celebrating their 130th anniversary. As a thank you to Church customers they are offering a £130 donation to church every time a church family member takes out a home insurance policy with them quoting Trust 130 and nominating our church - there are no limits on the number of donations made.  For more information either call 0800 7830130 and quote TRUST 130 or visit www.ecclesiastical.com/Trust130. Charity for December and January

'Under Tree Schools'is the charity for December and January. During the 22 year long war between the mainly Muslim Arabs in the north ofSudan, and the mainly Christians in the south, education was impossible for most of the population. People had to be prepared to evacuate their homes almost at a moments notice.  In 2005 a Peace Treaty was signed and as things improved, permanent schools were built.  In April 2009AyokAheiSchoolfor girls was opened in Malek, the chief town in Aweil.  It caters for 300 girls aged 6 to 15 and has a nursery and also facilities for adult education.  Please support this school by sticking a leaf on a tree and giving a donation.  Thank you.
